Antichi Sapori a taste of Italy

I remember the first time i went into Antichi Sapori. I was working near by and wanting to enjoy my lunch break. I saw outside that you could get any pizza or pasta and a coffee for 10e and desided to try it. I am very critical of Italian food. my granddad is an Italian man and i have summered in italy most of my life. So i have very high expectations on what pizza should taste like. I rarely ever will order pasta in a restaurant as i am a bit of a snob that way. Why would i order pasta in a restaurant when it takes only a few minutes to make a yummy pasta sauce. But every so often i will find a place that will have something on the menu i cannot resist. In this case gnocchi in a four cheese sauce. It was a rainy day i needed a pick me up and this was just the thing. the gnocchi was not home made like i would have preferred but it was done perfectly. gnocchi is a potato flour based pasta and as such very easy to over cook and turn gluey and unappealing. But in this case they cooked it perfectly the four cheese sauce was so creamy and full of cheesy flavors I actually wanted my lunch break to never end. Here is a picture of this amazing feast.
So upon the success of my first pasta experience in this place i returned the very next day again on my lunch break. I just could not resist the foodie in me wanted more. this time trying one of there pizzas. I have to say it is the best pizza i have ever had outside of Italy. the thin base the quality of the tomato sauce the ingredients that go on top of it all work together perfectly. nothing is ever overpowering on one of there pizzas. I always get an extra bit of chilli oil as it reminds me of pizzas in the Rampolina when i was younger and i love the little extra kick i get off it. I tried there Napolitana first. this is a very basic italian pizza you will find in most pizzerias it is a margaritta with added anchovies. it is one of the most delicious things you could ever possibly eat however the choice of anchovies used can very quickly ruin the whole experience. if too salty or too many on it it could soon be one of the worst pizzas you ever try. Allot of people do not like anchovies but i love them. they improve so many sauces and flavors. but i can understand that on there own perhaps they could be too much for someone.Every bite of this pizza made me feel like i was on holiday on lago maggiore. It was bringing me back to great memories and fantastic food. It is amazing how food can do that to you. after this i just kept coming back.

So i continued to go here regularly to enjoy the food but also listen to the italian music in the background and enjoy the simplicity of the decor and the friendly staff. the early bird menu is 22.50 i believe for a 3 course meal and they have takeaway deals for the pizzas 10e with a can of drink last i checked. This restaurant is one of our towns little known gems and i cannot recommend it enough. the Guinness pizza is divine if you are unsure of what to go for i recommend it as it is something different. this is not a fancy restaurant it is pizzeria that will bring you on the cheapest holiday of your life. You will feel like you are in Italy for the length and price of your meal. Here are a few more pictures of food i have enjoyed here to give you a better idea of the place. oh and if you like desert strawberry tiramisu divine sweet creamy fruit goodness.and its all washed down with an authentically Italian coffee
